About The Artist
Born in Rockhampton, Queensland, Janelle Anderson is a professional artist whose lifelong passion for creativity began in childhood, sketching anything she could find—from book illustrations to the natural world around her. Originally trained as a hairdresser, her love of colour and design naturally evolved into a deeper artistic pursuit. She went on to complete a Certificate in Graphic Design and a Certificate in Art History, while also immersing herself in art workshops whenever possible. Her defining breakthrough came after undertaking a 12-month Mastery Program at The Milan Art Institute, an experience that transformed her practice and cemented her decision to pursue art as her life’s work. Starting her career later in life, Janelle embraces the belief that it is never too late to conquer one’s dreams, and she hopes her journey encourages others to do the same.
Janelle Anderson describes her work as “a splash of joy, with a dash of mischief.” Her art is centered on bringing colour, playfulness, and upliftment into the lives of others. “My wish is to brighten lives through art that entertains, uplifts, and inspires—proving that joy, laughter, and a dash of mischief belong at the very heart of human connection,” she says. Working primarily in an abstract realism style, Janelle employs mixed media layered with directional mark-making to weave both structure and spontaneity into her compositions, resulting in vibrant, playful pieces that are both expressive and full of life.
Now based in the picturesque town of Maleny in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, Janelle draws daily inspiration from her rural surroundings and the region’s thriving creative community. Together with her husband, she enjoys a rich family life, with four married sons and ten grandchildren ensuring there is always laughter and energy close at hand. From her studio overlooking the Glass House Mountains, she continues to develop her artistic vision, with future ambitions to travel, expand her body of work, and one day publish an art book celebrating her colourful characters and distinctive, joy-filled style.
